Many congratulations to all of my colleagues involved in running our extensive enrichment programme: they have been recognised with a Certificate of Excellence in the Outstanding School Team of the Year category of the Pearson Teaching Awards. As there are over 5,000 schools nationwide eligible for this accolade, this is a very impressive achievement. They put on 18 different activities every week in the last half term, providing a brilliant range of options for our students.
Just before the half term holiday we had more good news, in that our athletics team continue to excel across the borough, with the boys and girls team successfully reaching the County Championships. In the boys competition the only other local school invited is John Lyon, and in the girls, Sacred Heart and North London Collegiate School. Illustrious company! In other sports news, our cricketers defeated Avanti House this week. In all these competitions students are reminded of the importance of exhibiting the Pinner High School Values no matter the outcome of the matches. We have a positive site sharing relationship with Avanti- the schools are completely separate but I meet frequently with the Head so we can both support each other- so I did enjoy pointing out this completes a clean sweep of victories against our neighbours in football, netball and cricket!
The week started with a training day, when I was delighted to welcome to Pinner High School all those who will be working with us from September. As student numbers more than double, we are fully staffed with excellent teachers, and having spent the day with them I am confident that they and our dedicated support staff will make our award winning team stronger still.
