We open in

The best of times

Pinner Panto, Football fixtures, Charity contributions, Inspection feedback and House Captains: the best of times at Pinner High School.

The Trailblazers Choir at the Pinner Panto last night were fabulous, mixing Christmas music with a range of other styles. Crowds were very impressed with the quality of performance and range of talents on show. Earlier in the evening the girls football team had taken to the field in the local tournament, so it was a busy day for the multi-talented students involved in both. There will be another chance to see the choir, and more besides, at the end of term concert on 15th December at 7pm: tickets will be available soon.

Children in Need followed on the footsteps of raising funds for the Royal British Legion, with three figure donations to each charity thanks to the generosity of the students, staff and parents. Compassion is one of the Pinner HIgh School Values, and a commitment to charity is a key part of the Headteachers Challenge, so it is very pleasing to see this as part of school life.

The full and active contributions students make to the life of the school was also praised in two feedback reports in the last two weeks, one inspection from the Department for Education, and the other on behalf of the Harrow Academies Trust (the group of established schools in Harrow who created Pinner High School).  'An excellent school for the whole community' was the vision that guided the opening of the school, and it is pleasing to see independent confirmation that the ten weeks we have been open have certainly lived up to this expectation.

This afternoon our first House Captains were named. Candidates completed an application, an interview and gave a presentation to the whole school. Congratulations to those who are the first House Captains of Ali, Malala and Bannister Houses. They each have two Deputies. It was a great pleasure to welcome Dr. Ahmed, our Chair of Governors, to assembly this week where results were shared. Governors and I share the commitment to Student Leadership, and the need for an effective Student Voice. With any appointments, inevitably, comes the disappointment of those who were unsuccessful. The best of times, perhaps, are easier to manage, and the Pinner High School Values were brought to life more vividly by the grace, perseverence and resilience of those who are not House Captains, yet. I am very proud of them all.
